Reader's Art 10 and such

Whew! The boxes are in the mail! So many books! So many boxes! The next show EARTH & AIR: art for the environment, by Leslie Sobel is hung. I have been building stretchers for a series of my pieces that are being hung in a show this weekend. The gallery looks like a BOMB! went off.

But, a wonderful surprise came in the mail today.

Book Arts Newsletter, No. 57, May 2010, an increasingly large publication out of the UK, arrived today with a review of Reader's Art 10. You can find it online at http://www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/newspdfs/57.pdf. The nice thing about reading it online is that it is in FULL color. Go take a look. Our article starts on page 34. Here is a quick snapshot of the poetry reading...poets and listeners reading before all the poets arrived.

Reader's Art 10 the opening

Many thanks to local photographer Michael A.Shapiro for photographing the evening. The 7 pm opening was a crush of people shortly after 6:30 pm.

One of those tiny dots is the curator, Jon Coffelt.Performance artist Julia Babb speaking with Susan. Julia will have a performance at the Pillsbury House on March 31 and April 1. I was a very short person lost in the sea of people. That's me, clutching my camera. I could not get shots much above people's navels! That's Zach gesturing in the gloves. Reader's Art & Debora Miller

Minneapolis artist Debora Miller is working on a window installation, murmur, for Reader's Art 10. Last night, the windows glowed with the first images. There will be more. Even tonight there are some tree shapes projecting from behind.

Wrestling Books into Shape

Sometimes books need extra handling to present themselves properly. Zach and Jon wrestled with Doug Beube's work for the afternoon. These altered books arrive looking like ordinary closed books. The trickwith the book LIFE is to slowly and carefully sort the pages into their ideal space, then tilt the book up, and let the pages cascade!
